The place was absolutely packed and the music was lively, not what you’d expect for a Monday night coming from the Bay Area. This isn’t a place to come if you want to have background music, this is a spot for actually listening to music. You will be shushed if you’re speaking during songs, but the music is so good you won’t want to do much talking anyways. Music starts at 9, but getting a table close to then can be near impossible. We ended up coming in around 6 to make a reservation, then came back closer to 9 and they had a table waiting for us right next to the band. If you can’t get a table they do have standing room in the back, and seemed to do their best to pack people in.Useful 8Funny 6Cool 10Max S.Los Angeles, CA394141114May 26, 2016Holy cow!If I lived in Paris and hung out in bars, this would be my spot. Good metal/rock music & atmosphere..Two (!) bars for days when it gets crowded.. the walls are covered in band posters which is very cool. in short: recommended. Only thing is.. i’m not sure they play metal every night so you may want to do a little research.. or just drop by like I did – I loved it. :)Useful 1FunnyCoolSamuel G.Jamaica Plain, MA020Feb 1, 2015Went to Piano Vache on a Thursday night, and it was a really enjoyable experience. For starters, the crowed was predominately French as opposed to other pubs that I’ve been to in Paris which are packed with people from all over. I loved the atmosphere and the drinks were reasonably priced (although I switched to beer since the vodka cranberry I ordered at first was kind of small). I would definitely go back!Useful 1FunnyCoolQype User (goodka…)London, United Kingdom33Feb 15, 2009a short walk from the pantheon, le piano vache is a a quintessential student rock/metal bar. the place is teeming with locals/regulars on the weekend, with its poster-plastered walls and alternative atmosphere providing a much-wanted relief from other tourist-infested places. watch out for random evening-closures (even on weekends) and, perilously steep staircase into the basement toilets. i’d rate in amongst the top bars in parisUseful 1FunnyCoolQype User (funkat…)Paris, France034Feb 28, 2010just when you thought paris was too sheeky neeky, this is one of the best bars in the latin district that combines youth, kitschiness, and 5EUR pints . . .they play music in the evenings and the people are in and out . .. the decoration is a mix of old music and art posters and old student id photos. i love it and it’s located amongst the narrow streets of the latin quater . .. i definitely end up here a lotUsefulFunnyCool1 of 111 other reviews that are not currently recommendedBusiness websitelepianovache.comPhone number01 46 33 75 03Get Directions8 rue Laplace 75005 Paris FranceSuggest an editIs this your business?Claim your business to immediately update business information, respond to reviews, and more!Verify this businessExplore benefitsCollections Including Le Piano Vache130Paris, France – Food And DrinksBy Christine U.18[Paris] Bars & PubsBy Amaury C.14Paris, FranceBy Elena N.25ParisBy Michael W.133ParisBy Mario V.18Paris – Messy Nessy & moreBy Philippe P.50ParisBy Jennifer M.101ParisBy Marcel G.59ParisBy Frank S.72ParisBy Kayla G.People Also ViewedPop In59€InexpensiveBars, Salle de concertLe Cavern67€€ModerateBoîtes de nuit/Clubs, Bars, Salle de concertLa Bellevilloise143€€ModerateBoîtes de nuit/Clubs, Salle de concert, Cuisine européenne moderne, BarsLe Motel81€InexpensiveBars, Salle de concertL’International76€€ModerateSalle de concert, Bars, Boîtes de nuit/ClubsLe Caveau des Oubliettes44€€ModerateJazz & Blues, Bars, Salle de concertLes Disquaires24€€ModerateBars, Salle de concertWho’s Bar53€€€PriceyBars, Salle de concertLe 13852€€ModerateBarsLa Flèche d’Or120€€ModerateSalle de concert, Boîtes de nuit/ClubsNear Me24 Hour Restaurants Near MeBars Near MeBars With Bands Near MeLive Music Near MeOther Places NearbyFind more Bars near Le Piano VacheFind more Salle de concert near Le Piano VacheAboutAbout YelpCareersPressInvestor RelationsTrust & SafetyContent GuidelinesAccessibility StatementTerms of ServicePrivacy PolicyAd ChoicesYour Privacy ChoicesDiscoverYelp Project Cost GuidesCollectionsTalkEventsYelp BlogSupportYelp MobileDevelopersRSSYelp for BusinessYelp for BusinessBusiness Owner LoginClaim your Business PageAdvertise on YelpYelp for Restaurant OwnersTable ManagementBusiness Success StoriesBusiness SupportYelp Blog for BusinessLanguagesEnglishCountriesUnited StatesAboutBlogSupportTermsPrivacy PolicyYour Privacy ChoicesCopyright © 2004–2023 Yelp Inc. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, listening to the most wonderful live gypsy jazz. The bar itself is a small, intimate music venue, with a…grungy/dive bar feel. We went here on Monday, which was sadly our last night in Paris (this also resulted in us getting 2 hours sleep before our flight…) But it was 110% worth it. Top of my list for my next visit. Ps. if you’re a Midnight in Paris fan, the time-travelling steps are 2mins from here :)MoreDate of visit: October 2017Helpful?1 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Dave S107 reviewsReviewed July 27, 2017 Great live music on MondaysWe kind of stumbled on this place on a Saturday night and was told by the (very friendly) owner that they had live jazz on Mondays. So on Monday we went and were not disappointed: the place has a very authentic, undergroundy kind of feel:…it’s dark and hot and stuffy (they really could do with a few more fans), but the place has real charm. Eclectic crowds (international) fill the place to listen to the extremely high quality music. We went late, and had G&T, but it seems (judging by other tables) that wine is a very common drink. Another place to return to and to remember our great trip to Paris by.MoreDate of visit: July 2017Helpful?1 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They should really have a door between the two rooms however – the band and connoisseurs of jazz wanted quiet and the loud Americans next door obviously wanted a different thing…- that would probably avoid all the ‘shushing’ and angry looks!MoreDate of visit: July 2017Helpful?1 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tommy H94 reviewsReviewed June 7, 2017 Cosy little bar with great live music on MondaysIt’s a stereotype that Parisian nights should involve bohemian, dimly-lit bars where manouche jazz is played and wine is drunk around wooden tables. However, it’s also a fun stereotype that makes for quite a good night out, so you might as well come to this…charming bar. It’s a sign of how long this little place in the Quartier de la Sorbonne has been hosting live music that the walls are covered with so many layers of posters and bills promoting gigs that they constitute a kind of papier-mache insulation. Live music is played every Monday and seems to be mostly jazz. We were sat up by the bar and away from the room in which the musicians were playing, but we could still hear their excellent playing. The price of a pint of beer was slightly eye-wincing even for Londoners, but I am reliably informed that this can be circumvented by taking advantage of happy hours, and by switching to wine. All in all a great little place.MoreDate of visit: June 2017Helpful?2 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Max S60 reviewsReviewed June 29, 2016 You wanna know why? This is the type of place I would become a regular at if I lived in Paris. Sure, its cool that Johnny Depp has been known to hang out here but there is more to it. Its tucked away on a side street but easy…to find. This place has an interesting vibe and 70’s/ 80’s rock ambience that you’ll love. In the relaxed atmosphere, you can spend hours checking out all of the ever-changing memorabilia on the walls and relaxing on the vintage couches, chairs and tables. It feels underground, historied and if the walls could talk… they’d surely have many interesting stories to tell. There a large back room/ bar that hosts every type of music depending on the night… from jazz to gothic to everything else. I didn’t know anything about this place and stumbled upon it while walking around in the area. They had just opened for the eve but the owner/ manager was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. If you’re nearby, check it out and soak it in.MoreDate of visit: May 2016Helpful?2 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On the walls, thousands of posters have built up over the years, forming a sort of living wallpaper interspersed with student ID photos. Other random collected objects can be found in the gloom, like the old piano overlooked by a stuffed cow’s head that gives the place its name. The enormous venue includes three bars, and everywhere are huge wooden tables of the sort that your elbows stick to. Come here for the relaxed atmosphere and the regular programme of themed nights: Monday is live jazz manouche, Tuesday ’80s night, Wednesday is Goth, Thursday ‘after work’, and Friday and Saturday rock, punk and pop.Written by CG/EHMonday 13 May 2013FacebookTwitterPinterestEmailWhatsAppDetailsAddress:8 rue Laplace5eParisContact:01.46.33.75.03Transport:Métro : Cardinal Lemoine, Maubert – Mutualité ; RER : LuxembourgOpening hours:Mon-Sat 12mid-2amAdvertisingAn email you’ll actually loveGet into a relationship with our newsletter. I haven’t been to many parisian bars so I don’t know if they’re all similar, but to me this one seemed pretty different from any bar I’ve been to. The place is kinda cramped, like most that I saw in Paris; but that didn’t bother me in this particular bar. The music was awesome and definitely worth going there just for that if you want a break from all those usual songs we hear in every corner nowadays. The decoration is super chill, kinda like an ‘underground’ rock bar. The atmosphere in general is pretty unique and definitely made me wanna go back there. Not for everybody, but I definitely recommend it.Date of visit: March 2013ValueAtmosphereServiceAsk M_eves91 about Le Piano Vache1 Thank M_eves91 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Janet BWeimar, California7693Reviewed July 30, 2012 You gotta hear the jazzThis is a little hole-in-the wall bar next to where I rented and apartment. We share a wall so every Monday night for the past four weeks, I have been treated to fabulous Jazz music. Tonight I decided to see what it was all about, and I assure you it was even better without the wall muffling the sound. I do think the drinks were expensive 7 Euros each for cheap beer and wine, but I’ve been told that this is typical for Paris and we were treated to the wonderful Jazz music. I highly recommend it on Monday night (by the way it’s right next to the street where Woody Allen filmed the “steps” scene in Midnight in Paris so you can see that at the same time.)Date of visit: July 2012ValueAtmosphereServiceAsk Janet B about Le Piano Vache3 Thank Janet B This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The entrance is free but the drinks are a bit pricey and It’s also very packed, so don’t expect to be seated unless you come (very) early and/or are very lucky or stay after the last metro ;)The packedness together with the music and the lighting gives the place a very warm cosy atmosfere. The only downside is the agressive barman hushing the crowds for silence. Sure, music should be respected, but hey man! that’s swing jazz! Not a classical recital! So no need to get all excited, you can tell people to be quiet in a friendly way, so PLEASE give up that attitude and try spoiling the good vibe that’s flowing!Date of visit: February 2016ValueServiceAsk xiaolux about Le Piano VacheThank xiaolux This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
